• The ONTABA Jurisprudence Committee created a comprehensive resource list of legislation and regulations relevant to the practice of behaviour analysis in Ontario.
• The ONTABA Jurisprudence Committee then worked with an expert in measurement and accreditation in order to develop an initial framework for ethical and professional standards for behaviour analysts practicing in Ontario.
• A Working Group of professionals with expertise across service sectors and populations, as well as representation from diverse geographical locations, was developed.
• The Working Group, under the direction of the ONTABA Jurisprudence Committee, used the initial framework to create a first draft of “Jurisprudence and Ethics Knowledge and Competency Standards for Ontario Behaviour Analysts”. (Referred to as the “JE Standards”.)
• The ONTABA Jurisprudence Committee reviewed and refined the draft JE Standards and solicited and integrated feedback from the ONTABA Advisory Committee.
• The ONTABA Jurisprudence Committee shared the refined JE Standards back to the Working Group for approval.
• The ONTABA Jurisprudence Committee presented a final draft to the ONTABA Board for approval in November 2019.
• The current JE Standards were approved by the ONTABA Board of Directors in November 2019 and translated in early 2020.
• The JE Standards were released to the membership in July 2020.
• The JE Standards were updated by the ONTABA Adhoc JE Resource Review Committee to align with The Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts (BACB, 2020) and released to the membership in November 2022.
